The Youth Empowerment Program (YEP) Bahamas is the nation’s pre-eminent holistic youth development program, empowering annually approximately 1,200 high school students with the skills, confidence, exposure, and support they need to succeed, regardless of their GPA.

 

At YEP, we believe that every young person has potential. Admission is not determined by academic performance. Instead, we welcome students in Grades 9–12 who are ready to learn, grow, lead, and become the best version of themselves.

 

For 30 transformative weeks, running parallel to the school calendar, students participate in an exciting after-school experience led by a dedicated network of approximately 200 volunteers who share a passion for youth development.

 

Meeting for two hours each week at YEP District Centres, students gain practical knowledge and real-world exposure through:

 

* Leadership and personal development

* College and career preparation

* Entrepreneurship and business skills

* Job readiness and financial literacy

* Life skills and conflict resolution

* Fine arts and drama

* Health, fitness, and wellness

* Peer and adult mentorship

* Volunteerism and community service

* Spiritual and environmental awareness and conflict resolution

 

YEP does more than prepare students for examinations, we prepare them for life.

 

Students are also given meaningful opportunities to lead. Within each District, participants create their own group identity and democratically elect a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Public Relations Director, Sergeant-at-Arms, and Chaplain. This hands-on leadership experience teaches responsibility, teamwork, accountability, communication, and good citizenship.

 

Each YEP District Centre is guided by a District Manager and supported by trained volunteers who provide mentorship, encouragement, and positive examples for our students.
